Stab neutrophils in the blood

Neutrophils are the most numerous components in the group of white blood cells - leukocytes. It is these cells that are the first to fight various infections, bacteria and fungi that have entered the human body. By the number of these cells in the blood of a person, one can judge the state of his immune system, so if a doctor has even the slightest suspicion of an inflammatory or infectious process, he will certainly send the patient to a general clinical blood test, the results of which the specialist can assess the conditionhuman health.

is elevated It’s not easy for a person to understand all the characteristics and indicators of blood on his / her own, especially when it is recorded in the form with the result that neutrophils are elevated. What does it mean and is it worth worrying? Let's try to explain in the most accessible language all the most important aspects of this indicator.

What are band neutrophils?

The main task of neutrophilic leukocytes is to detect and destroy pathogens and thereby protect the human body from the development and reproduction of bacteria and viruses. After capturing and splitting inside of themselves( phagocytosis) of foreign particles, neutrophils die, and new white blood "defenders" are formed in their bone marrow to replace them. But it should be noted that before carrying out their activities, neutrophils need to develop and mature, it happens in six stages:

  • myeloblast;
  • promyelocyte;
  • matamyelotsit;
  • stab cell;
  • is segmented.

But an important diagnostic criterion is only the last two groups and the balance between them.

Segmental neutrophils are the main subspecies of the leukocyte group, the number of which reaches 60-70% of the total. This is a complete mature cell with a segmental nucleus that can move freely in the peripheral blood through various organs. The stab neutrophil is an immature cell, this form of blood cells in large quantities is synthesized and released into the body in the event of any infectious or inflammatory disease. In a healthy person, stab neutrophils normally should be no more than 6% of the total number of leukocytes.

In severe cases of the disease or in the development of acute inflammation, segmented neutrophils will die first, while reducing part of the disease-causing cells. There will be much more young forms in the blood, including kidney-shaped ones.

In children, there are some differences in the leukocyte formula, and the number of neutrophil leukocytes may change as they grow older. It should also be borne in mind that children's immunity forms approximately up to 3 years, therefore, in some cases, segmented neutrophils can be reduced, and the stab neutrons can be elevated in a child, and this fact is considered acceptable.

Blood Norm

Neutrophil Norm is measured as a percentage of the total number of leukocytes, in adults, this figure varies from 45-70% or 1.8-6.5 * 109 / l. In children, as they mature, there is a tendency to increase the% content of neutrophils, although their absolute value remains unchanged.

The norm of the stab leukocyte forms is from 1 to 5% of the total set of neutrophils, the remaining 40-65% is allocated to segmented nucleated cells.

Neutrophils or stab-norm in women and men are the same, but during the childbearing a slight change in the index in a larger direction is permissible.

If, as a result of the analysis, stab neutrophils are 0 in an adult, that is, immature forms are completely absent, in most cases, this is the norm, which means that the body does not need to create additional protective cells.

Causes when elevated

A condition of the body in which a large number of young forms of leukocytes is found in the blood is called a shift in the leukocyte formula. As a rule, this condition has only one logical explanation - the body synthesizes a large number of "protective" cells, in order to fight the infection much more efficiently. If stab neutrophils are elevated in an adult, this may signal the development of one of the following diseases or pathological factors:

  • pneumonia, tonsillitis, tonsillitis, pyelonephritis;
  • severe forms of SARS;
  • otitis media;
  • tuberculosis;
  • nephrite;
  • gout;
  • dermatitis;
  • presence of a tumor;
  • diabetes;
  • after surgery;
  • injuries and burns;
  • acute intoxication( alcoholic, mercury or lead poisoning);
  • reaction to some drugs;
  • anemia;
  • pregnancy.

If the stab neutrophils are elevated in a child, this situation can be triggered by the same circumstances as in an adult, but apart from the kids, malfunctions in blood formation can occur against the background of worm infestation, allergies, intestinal dysbiosis or severe stresses and experiences. If stacked in the blood of newborn babies are elevated, then you shouldn’t panic ahead of time, since the birth of a child many indicators absolutely do not correspond to the established normative values, because when born, the child’s body is not at all adapted to environmental conditions.a kind of stress, to which the logical answer is the formation of a large number of neutrophilic leukocytes from 5 to 12%.

With what an imbalance of some blood parameters is connected, a specialist should understand, it is possible to eliminate certain medications, it is enough to cancel the intake of certain drugs, or to enter the intake of vitamin complexes and immunostimulants.
