Yoga reduces the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome

A study published in the journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology showed that yoga is associated with a decrease in symptoms, severity of the disease and anxiety in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Scientists from the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany conducted a systematic review to study the effect of yoga on the symptoms of IBS. They studied the data of 6 studies with the participation of 273 patients, in which the effect of yoga was compared with usual medical care, non-pharmacological or pharmacological treatment.

In the case of IBS, thissymptomatology should be accompanied by two obligatory signs:

- In total, these seizures should last approximately 12 weeks throughout the year. That is, roughly speaking, twice a week a person suffering from IBS should have such problems.

- Pain should only be in the lower abdomen. Usually, these pains are felt in the iliac region - that is, in the lower third of the abdomen. This symptom distinguishes IBS from colitis and problems with the small intestine, in which the pain is felt higher. In IBS, the pain may be cramping, that is, when it seizes, then it releases. In some cases, they can be aching, prolonged. An important sign that usually pain does not bother a person at night while sleeping.

Another symptom is the disappearance of pain when releasing the intestine from excessive gas production. Allocatethree forms of irritable bowel syndrome:IBS, accompanied by diarrhea, IBS with a problem in the form of constipation and a mixed form, which is also called intermittent.
The diarrhea form has several distinctive features. The first sign is that the first symptoms of diarrhea begin in the morning, usually after or even during meals. Desires are very often, if I may say so, a preliminary character. That is, a person has a feeling that he urgently needs to visit the toilet. But, for example, after 5 minutes this sensation disappears spontaneously and may not appear for another 4, 6, 8 hours. With IBS diarrhea form per day in humans, defecation occurs 2-4 times. In rare cases, up to 6 times can be observed. At the same time, the longer the break between defecation, the more decorated the chair. If the break between stools is small - a chair not decorated, pre-diareic. As for irritable bowel syndrome with constipation. In these cases, the chair is three times a week or less. This diagnosis is characterized by fine fragmented fecal feces. There are alternating forms. That is, when a person suffers from constipation for a long time, and then once he has diarrhea. And then again, constipation. This form of IBS is quite rare. Approximately 50% of cases of irritable bowel syndrome are diarrhea, 30% - a locking form and the remaining 10-20% is an intermittent form.

Main reasonsthe occurrence of irritable bowel syndrome is two. In the overwhelming majority of cases, it is directly related toamount of caffeine consumed.
