Yoga and irritable bowel syndrome
Yoga helps with irritable bowel syndrome
According to medical statistics, irritable bowel syndrome (bloating, heartburn, constipation and diarrhea) affects 30% of the world's population. Most of them are active people, more often women.
Unfortunately, a person who suffers from this disease often faces psychological problems. In particular, he is afraid to leave his home because of the possibility of a sudden attack. Therefore, the treatment of this syndrome, in addition to medicines, includes the impact on the psychoemotional state of the patient. Until recently, these problems helped solve the psychologist. However, it has now been scientifically proven that yoga can change attitudes toward one's own illness.
Scientists from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) conducted a study involving 75 women with irritable bowel syndrome. All of them for a long time engaged in yoga and meditated, focusing on certain areas of the body and learning to consciously strain and relax the muscles.
As a result, all participants of the experiment noted a significant improvement in well-being due to regular practice.
The latter, in addition to psychological impact, in the opinion of experienced masters can give a pronounced therapeutic result. For this, asanas, which improve the digestive system, must be included in the daily program. In particular, Trikonasana, Padahastasana, Pavanamuktasan, Udarakrasasan, Navasan, Dzhathar Parivatanasan and Marichyasan.

Yoga reduces the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome
A study published in the journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology showed that yoga is associated with a decrease in symptoms, severity of the disease and anxiety in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Scientists from the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany conducted a systematic review to study the effect of yoga on the symptoms of IBS. They studied the data of 6 studies with the participation of 273 patients, in which the effect of yoga was compared with usual medical care, non-pharmacological or pharmacological treatment.
The researchers found that yoga patients experienced a significant decrease in symptoms and severity of IBS, compared to patients undergoing traditional treatment. In addition, yoga was associated with a significant improvement in the quality of life and physical functioning. There were no undesirable events after the yoga classes.
"The results of this systematic review suggest that yoga can be a safe addition to the traditional treatment of IBS the researchers concluded.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Three simple steps that will help get rid of one of the most common diseases.

On the planet, approximatelyone in fivean adult suffers from irritable bowel syndrome. But most of these people have no idea that they have this disease. They are sure that the characteristic symptoms are a variant of the norm.Women suffer twice as often as men.The average age is 30-40 years. And 60% of them have never applied for medical help in connection with this condition. In my opinion, even if such a state of a person does not bother him, you still need to monitor the changes and react to them in time.
Realizing how important it is to keep my health under control, I developed an interactive guide to diseases "Encyclopedia of Health" - an application, which helps self-understand the symptoms, understand what professional treatment is required in his case and which doctor should be contacted first queue. But it contains not only detailed information on common diseases and various drugs - I also included recommendations for nutrition and exercise, which are shown in one or another the case.
Termirritable bowel syndromeIt is used in cases when the patient comes with complaints characteristic of dysbacteriosis, but there is no change in the intestinal microflora. What is characterized by irritable bowel syndrome -abbreviated to IBS. This is a pain in the abdomen, bloating and stool breaking in the absence of any organic causes. That is, take an analysis of feces and it turns out that the intestinal flora is normal. Then the person is given a colonoscopy - there is no inflammation, there is no tumor, and the person's chair is either quickened unformed, or vice versa - with permanent constipation. And all this is accompanied by specific pains specifically for IBS. What is the specificity of these pains? A person has a painful sensation of a sudden urge to go to the toilet, which - a very important moment - goes after defecation.
In the case of IBS, thissymptomatology should be accompanied by two obligatory signs:
- In total, these seizures should last approximately 12 weeks throughout the year. That is, roughly speaking, twice a week a person suffering from IBS should have such problems.
- Pain should only be in the lower abdomen. Usually, these pains are felt in the iliac region - that is, in the lower third of the abdomen. This symptom distinguishes IBS from colitis and problems with the small intestine, in which the pain is felt higher. In IBS, the pain may be cramping, that is, when it seizes, then it releases. In some cases, they can be aching, prolonged. An important sign that usually pain does not bother a person at night while sleeping.
Another symptom is the disappearance of pain when releasing the intestine from excessive gas production. Allocatethree forms of irritable bowel syndrome:IBS, accompanied by diarrhea, IBS with a problem in the form of constipation and a mixed form, which is also called intermittent.
The diarrhea form has several distinctive features. The first sign is that the first symptoms of diarrhea begin in the morning, usually after or even during meals. Desires are very often, if I may say so, a preliminary character. That is, a person has a feeling that he urgently needs to visit the toilet. But, for example, after 5 minutes this sensation disappears spontaneously and may not appear for another 4, 6, 8 hours. With IBS diarrhea form per day in humans, defecation occurs 2-4 times. In rare cases, up to 6 times can be observed. At the same time, the longer the break between defecation, the more decorated the chair. If the break between stools is small - a chair not decorated, pre-diareic. As for irritable bowel syndrome with constipation. In these cases, the chair is three times a week or less. This diagnosis is characterized by fine fragmented fecal feces. There are alternating forms. That is, when a person suffers from constipation for a long time, and then once he has diarrhea. And then again, constipation. This form of IBS is quite rare. Approximately 50% of cases of irritable bowel syndrome are diarrhea, 30% - a locking form and the remaining 10-20% is an intermittent form.
Main reasonsthe occurrence of irritable bowel syndrome is two. In the overwhelming majority of cases, it is directly related toamount of caffeine consumed. That is why this syndrome was extremely rare in children until a certain point. That is, IBS often suffers from those who abuse tea, coffee, cocoa, chocolate, mate, cola, energy drinks. Therefore, you can conduct an experiment - ask a person suffering from IBS, for a week to refrain from consuming caffeine. In most cases, you will get a complete disappearance of the symptoms. If he says, without coffee or tea I can not wake up, I can recommend him a reception, for example, tincture of magnolia vine. While the dose of caffeine will not be reduced or even excluded, no measures will help to get rid of irritable bowel syndrome. The second reason isautonomic dystonia. that is, a violation of the tone of the autonomic nervous system. Increased vegetative tone is characteristic for IBS with diarrhea. Since the vagus nerve strengthens the intestinal peristalsis. And, accordingly, sympathetic form is characterized by IBS with constipation, because this type of nervous system inhibits bowel motility.
A study was conducted that showed thatapplication of a complex of 12 asanas and one pranayamaled totwofold decrease in the frequency and intensity of IBS attackswith a diarrhea form. Among these exercises, vajrasana, shishankasana, ustrasana, маджариасана, падахостасана, дхануrasна, триконасана in two variants: utthita and parivritta, паванмуктасана and пашчимоттанасана. And at the end of the breath through the right nostril 10 minutes. Is this complex somehow specific for irritable bowel syndrome? No. A selection of the above asanas iscombination of stretches and contractions of the anterior abdominal wall. First of all, it affects the evacuation of gases from the intestine. Also, if we stretch and compress the walls of the intestines, and do this periodically, we will have an increase or decrease in motor function. In addition, this will give a certain effect of reducing the sensitivity of smooth muscles to stretching. All this leads tonormalization of the intestine.
In principle, any other complex with similar effect can be made with the same success. An important point, when making up this complex, is not forgetting about compensation. If we generalize, algorithm for getting rid of the most common gastroenterological diseaseis extremely simple: to exclude caffeine and, depending on the causes and type of IBS, to select a complex and, accordingly, to choose pranayama activating sympathetic or activating parasympathetic.
